The book studies Conrad's mostly unconscious psychological promptings behind his adopted method of treatment of themes, at one stage one kind and at another stage another different kind, with the corresponding changes in his stylistic pattern. All these variations are found to conform to a well-related system in the author's discernments arranged in four parts and nineteen chapters.

R.N. Sarkar, M.A., Ph.D., has a long teaching experience and is at present Reader and Head of the Department of English at Katwa College, Burdwan University. He has several major works to his credit including A Trend in English Fiction, The Latest Revelation, An Episodic Interpretation of the Mahabharata, Scenes in Nineteenth Century English Fiction, and A Topical Survey of English Literature. He is at present engaged in editing and translating a Compendium of contributions of Sri Thakur Anukulchandra to the concept of Dharma, the World Peace, and the Advent of the Supreme Father.
